The story behind The Swing
Painted around 1767–1768 for Baron de Saint-Julien, Fragonard's scene hides a playful triangle in a lush garden: a young woman kicks off her slipper while her admirer watches from the roses. A tiny Cupid raises a finger to his lips, turning the whole painting into a conspiracy of motion, flowers, and secrecy.
